Prof. Dr. Habil. Cristian Funieru, DMD, PhD, is the Head of Preventive Dentistry Division and Vice-Dean with the Development of Information Infrastructure, Digitalization and Innovative Technologies in the Faculty of Dentistry of “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania. Dr. Funieru graduated from the same university (“Carol Davila”) in 2002 and now is primary dentist (general dentistry), specialist in Dento-alveolar surgery and has a Masters diploma in Project Management. His clinical and scientific work is focused on diagnosis and prevention of dental caries and periodontal diseases. He is the author of two editions of ICDAS II Guide in Romanian language and the coordinator of Romanian Fluoride Guide. Dr. Funieru is the author/co-author of 26 ISI papers visible in Web of Science, 8 monographs, 2 chapters in 2 treaties (of Periodontology and Preventive Dentistry), coordinator/member in 14 European/national/private scientific projects mostly focused on dental plaque, epidemiology of dental caries and periodontal diseases in Romania, teeth eruption, oral hygiene profile of the communities, preventive strategies for people with xerostomia.
ORAL HEALTH AMONG CHILDREN IN BUCHAREST, ROMANIA: A VISION FOR CARIES PREVENTION
The oral health status in Romania was analyzed in many studies developed in cities, rural areas or at the national level. The goal of this conference is to describe the road of analyzing the oral health status in schoolchildren in Romania, which for me started in Bucharest by collecting data about caries, gingivitis, teeth eruption and oral hygiene profile (PAROGIM study). After we understood the background of the profile, including risk factors for dental caries such as dental plaque, oral hygiene, diet, lack of fluoride intakes, social aspect, education, we decided to move forward and develop a national survey.
