Zagreb boasts a comprehensive and efficient public transportation system operated by Zagrebački Električni Tramvaj (ZET). The city’s network consists primarily of trams and buses, offering affordable and reliable options for reaching key city districts and surrounding areas.

Trams form the backbone of Zagreb’s transit system, with 15 daytime lines operating from approximately 4:00 AM to midnight, and 4 night lines covering late-night routes. The extensive tram network connects major locations such as Ban Jelačić Square—the city’s central square—as well as the main train and bus stations. Tram tickets, valid for 30 to 60 minutes depending on type, can be purchased at kiosks, via mobile apps, or on board from drivers at a higher fare.

Complementing the tram system, over 130 bus lines extend coverage to neighborhoods and adjacent towns, using the same integrated ticketing system. Buses generally operate from early morning to midnight.

Zagreb also features a historic funicular (uspinjača) that provides a quick and scenic connection between the Lower Town and Upper Town, a popular route for both locals and tourists.

For nature lovers and visitors seeking panoramic views, the Sljeme cable car (žičara Sljeme) transports passengers from the city outskirts up to the summit of Mount Sljeme on Medvednica Mountain. This cable car offers a unique opportunity to access hiking trails, winter sports facilities, and spectacular city vistas in just a short ride.

Tickets for trams, buses, and the funicular are unified, with options including single rides, daily passes, and multi-day cards suitable for visitors and commuters. Passengers must validate tickets on boarding to comply with regulations.

Additional transportation options include taxis, ride-sharing services, and bike rentals, while Zagreb’s compact and walkable city center allows many attractions to be reached on foot.
